As expected the 2011 Shelby GT500 was unveiled this afternoon during a live webcast. We can now officially confirm that it will receive a slight increase in power to a total of 550hp! Other noteworthy additions include an SVT performance package, standard HID headlights, and an increase in fuel economy, eliminating the gas guzzler tax!

According to a recent report by the Detroit News, Ford Motor Company will be unveiling the 2011 Shelby GT500 to the public on Monday. Word is that in addition to the expected new aluminum cylinder block it'll also get a small power increase.

The 2010 Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale Arizona has finally concluded with many Mustangs crossing the chopping block. While we were expecting the first production '66 Shelby GT350 ($225,000) to be the top selling Mustang, the 2011 Mustang GT Daytona Pace Car stole the show with a final bid of $300,000 placing it as the fourth highest selling vehicle of the auction! Other noteworthy Mustangs include lot 1027, a 2008 FR500 which sold for $275,000.

Thanks to a leaked pdf file we've now got all the base MSRP and optional equipment prices for the 2011 Ford Mustang GT and V6. Prices start at $22,995 for the base model V6, up to $30,495 for the base model GT, and top out at $38,695 for the GT Convertible Premium. Noteworthy options include the California Special for $2,475, and the Brembo brake package for $1,695. Dealers are said to begin taking orders on the 2011 Mustang today.

Carroll Shelby has confirmed that he will be in attendance at the Barrett Jackson Gala on Monday night to unveil a new vehicle. According to Jalopnik.com the 2011 Ford Mustang GT has been chosen as the official pace car for the 2010 Daytona 500. The car will be decked out with a custom Daytona 500 paint scheme, Ford Racing suspension system, special interior treatment, and uniquely painted wheels. Word is that this will be the first time a Ford paces the field of the Daytona 500 in 40 years!
Update: We have received information that this car is apparently going to be sold at the Barrett Jackson auction on January 23rd, though it is not currently on the official Barrett Jackson car list.

Unfortunately we have just gotten confirmation that the rumors of a twin turbo powered 2012 Shelby GT500 are untrue. Ford Chief Engineer Mike Harrison confirmed to Autoblog that there were no plans for such a beast any time soon mostly due to lack of engine compartment room.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of Parnelli Jones’ 1970 Trans-Am championship in a Mustang Boss 302, Ford Racing is introducing the Boss 302R factory built race car. The Boss 302R is a serialized off road use only race car. Each base model will come with a 5.0 liter four-valve engine and a 6 speed manual transmission.

According to a recently published article on the Edmunds InsideLine blog it has been confirmed that the 2011 Ford Mustang GT will have a 5.0L V8 with 412 horsepower! No word was given as to when it'll debut but we're expecting to see it in Detroit next month.
Update: Autoweek divulged a bit more information on the 2011 Mustang GT including that it will be available with two six speed transmissions and when it'll be officially revealed.

The LA Auto Show is officially over and I'm sure many of you are wondering what happened to the long anticipated 2011 Mustang GT reveal. Well to be honest we don't know. From everything we heard the V8 version of your favorite pony car should have been unveiled at the auto show two weeks ago. Speculation is that prototype just wasn't ready for the big show so Ford chose to hold it back. Another theory is that Ford didn't want to overshadow the unveiling of the new Fiesta with the awesome new Mustang GT. Either way it seems to be a pretty safe bet that we'll be seeing the 2011 Mustang GT at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Keep your fingers crossed!

Earlier this month at the SEMA show in Las Vegas Steeda Autosports was awarded the Outstanding Design Achievement Award by Ford Motor Company for the design of the new 2010 Steeda Q350 Mustang. The Shelby Turbo Package is now available for install at any Shelby mod shop for owners of 2005-2009 Mustang GTs. Thanks to a letter sent to Ford dealers we've got some leaked information about a new racecar that Ford Racing has planned for 2010, the Boss 302R. Like the FR500, the 2010 Boss 302R Mustang will be a track only vehicle with very few being made, only 50 to be exact. It'll be powered by a 400hp 5.0L V8 with an estimated starting price of $79,000. The main question is, when will we see the street version?

We want to be the first to congratulate Hajek Motorsports on breaking the world land speed record for an E-85 alternative fuel powered vehicle in a 2010 Ford Mustang. Driver Danny Thompson took the Hajek Motorsports 2010 Mustang to a combined average speed of 255.764 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats last Sunday. Ford Motor Company teamed up with Roush Fenway Racing and Con-way Freight today to unveil the No. 16 Con-way Freight Ford Mustang which will race in the Nascar Nationwide Series next year. As we reported this summer the Ford Mustang will begin competing in Nascar in July of 2010 when a limited rollout of the new car begins at Daytona International Speedway.

The end of the Las Vegas Barrett Jackson auction finds many collectible Mustangs in the hands of new owners tonight including the two we recently reported about. The second production Lee Iacocca 45th Anniversary Mustang sold for an an astounding $320,000 besting the reigning king of Mustang auctions, Carroll Shelby, and his special edition Don Prudhomme GT500 Super Snake concept car which received a winning bid of $275,000. Ford Motor Company also brought out a few vehicles for sale including the second production 2000 Cobra R which sold for the bargain price of $60,000. Roush Performance unveiled two new 2010 Mustangs today! First up is the 2010 Roush Stage 3 which features 20" chrome wheels, four piston front brakes with 14" rotors, and a full Roush body kit. The second vehicle is the 2010 Roush 540RH which is meant to be more of a sleeper with limited Roush appearance items. Oh and did we mention they both have 540 horsepower!
