Differences Between the 1996-1998 GT and Cobra
*These are differences on the Cobra that were not on the GT*
Engine
The Cobra's modified 5.0L engine was now swapped out for a modular 4.6L engine. While the GT had a 16 valve SOHC (single overhead cam) engine, the Cobra came with a 32 valve DOHC (dual overhead cam) engine that produced  65 more horsepower than the GT.  For '96, '97, and part of '98 the Cobra's valve covers were stamped and signed by the factory technicians who hand built these engines. When most enthusiasts saw these engines for the first time they were quite suprised at it's massive size, which is near that of the 60's 427 and 429 engines.
