| 1968 Shelby GT500KR at Barrett Jackson |
Lot: 1278
This is an original matching numbers Highland Green Shelby GT500 KR 4-speed convertible. This car has just completed a rotisserie restoration to concours condition. A Deluxe Marti Report and an original dealer invoice verify this Shelby's originality and of course are included in the sale. This KR was originally delivered to Gotham Ford in Manhattan. The Shelby Registry shows the car in California in 1982. This car was tucked away in a private collection for many years in California until I bought it in 2004 in Southern California. The car was in exceptional original condition with the motor never having been taken out of the car. Car was sent to M Detail in Riverside, California, who are Shelby Restoration Professionals who spent the better part of two years taking this car to number 1 condition. While in the restoration process we continued to discover the amazing original condition that this Shelby maintained. All of the original sheet metal and fiberglass are intact. The car had never suffered any rust or accidents. I have photos that document the entire process and the car speaks for itself. This car has its original matching numbers motor and transmission, as well as all of its original metal and body panels. To quote the Marti Report, in 1968, there were 4,451 Shelbys made. 1,571 were GT500 KR's. 518 were convertibles. Of the convertibles, 267 were 4-speeds. Of those, 50 were painted Highland Green. Of those, 41 had black interior and 23 had white convertible tops. 18 of them had Traction-Lok rear axles. 1 of them was shipped to New York. This is that Shelby.
