Shelby to Revive GT350 Name?

2011 Shelby GT350 Rendering

Update 1/15/2009: Through his Twitter account Carroll Shelby has confirmed that he will indeed be in attendance at the Barrett Jackson Gala on Monday night to unveil a new vehicle. "See me do the first new Barrett Jackson car intro ever at 8PM MST (10pm EST/7pm PST) on 1/18/10." The entire event will be available through a live webcast on TeamShelby.com

According to a recent report by LeftLaneNews.com Shelby American is planning on reviving the GT350 name in honor of the original model's 45th anniversary. The new vehicle will be based on the 2011 Mustang GT, will run a modified version it's new 5.0L power plant, and will most likely be situated somewhere between the Mustang GT and Shelby GT500 in terms of power output.

Left Lane News reports that a white 2010 Mustang with the 2011 5.0L engine is being used as a development test mule at Shelby's facilities in Las Vegas. "Given that Shelby has already stated it does not intend to produce any 2010 or 2011 Shelby GTs, the company’s production facilities should have plenty of room for a new, higher volume model."

Although there has been no official statement from Shelby as when to expect the new car, or if it even exists, word is that Shelby may be unveiling a Mustang of some sort at the invitation only Barrett Jackson Opening Night Gala in Scottsdale, Arizona, on January 18. Could it be the 2011 Shelby GT350? Only time will tell.
