| Mustang vs Camaro: The V6s Go To War |
Although we're still jonesing for a head to head comparison between the 2011 Mustang GT and 2011 Camaro SS, InsideLine has soothed our cravings with their latest comparo between the 2011 Mustang V6 and 2010 Camaro V6. It looks like the pony car wars are really heating up, and the Mustang is ahead!
During InsideLine's testing the 2010 Camaro V6 showed some decent performance numbers however the Camaro must have brought a knife to this gun fight because the Mustang stomped it on just about every comparison. For example while the Camaro ran a 0-60 mph time of 6.1 seconds, the Mustang was able to do it in just 5.6 seconds. In the quarter mile the Camaro was able to muster a 14.3 at 98mph but the Mustang was nearly half a second quicker running a 13.9 at 101mph. The Camaro's as tested weight was 282 lbs heavier than the Mustang (3790 lbs vs 3508 lbs) which surely hurt it in the acceleration tests but definitely killed it on the skidpad where the Mustang bested the Camaros 0.86g with a 0.91g. In the drivers comments section driver Josh Jacquot boasted about the Mustang's handling saying that it had "Truly impressive manners". The Camaro on the other hand had a "less-than-inspiring feel". Even in the braking test the Mustang won with a 60-0 mph distance of 103 feet versus the Camaro's 111.8 feet. The one comparison where the Camaro beat the Mustang was in pricing, $29,175 against the Mustang's $30,600 price tag.
Here are the rest of the test results:

Note: Before anyone starts crying foul we'd like to point out that yes we do realize that the 2011 Camaro V6 has an "additional" 8 horsepower over the previous year. However even General Motors themselves have admitted that the increase in horsepower was purely due to the 2010 model's power rating being conservative. That means that the 2011 and 2010 Camaro V6 share identical engines and both have the same horsepower. Furthermore from what we've read the 2011 Camaro LT (V6) will have very few, if any, performance upgrades which would skew the test results that InsideLine has recorded. A recent press release by GM shows that the 2011 Camaro LT will receive an additional paint color, a new heads up display, and like we said, its official power rating was bumped.
