| 1965 Shelby GT350 Prototype To Be Auctioned |
Update: This vehicle sold during the Mecum Monterey Auction for $190,000. Compared to what other less collectable Mustangs have sold for in the recent past we think this was an absolute steal.
Very few people in the world are fortunate enough to own an original 60s Shelby Mustang but only one insanely lucky (and rich) person is going to have the privilege to own this gem. The car we're referring to is one of just three '65 Shelby GT350 prototypes ever built and its about to cross the chopping block.
Mecum Auctions out of Marengo, Illinois are calling this "one of the most historically significant Shelby Mustangs" in the world. It was originally shipped to Shelby on May 22, 1965 and over the next few days was built into an official Shelby GT350. Over the next two years Shelby American used the vehicle as a test mule helping to develop the '66 GT350. It features rear quarter windows, side brake cooling scoops, 1966 spec GT350 side stripes, and Shelby/Cragar 15" black accent wheels. The Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) has authenticated it as the real deal.
The GT350 prototype will cross the block at Mecum's Monterey Auction held during the Pebble Beach Concours on August 14th. You've got one and only chance to own this rare pony, so break the piggy bank open and get down there!
