Motortrend Magazine recently decided to pit the 2011 Mustang GT vs the 2011 BMW M3 in an all out performance test to see who reigns supreme. The BMW killed the Mustang easily right? Wrong! Not only did the Mustang equal the BMW in the 0-60 mph test, but it beat the M3 on the drag strip by a tenth of a second and 0.7 mph. (The Mustang ran 12.7 seconds at 111.6 mph, the M3 ran 12.8 at 110.9 mph). Well obviously the Mustang was going to win on the drag strip, but the M3 must have destroyed it in all other handling tests right? Wrong again! The Mustang beat the Bimmer in every handling test, stopping shorter from 60 mph by two feet, out gripping it around the MotorTrend figure eight track by .2 seconds, and performing better on the skidpad by .01g!
After all these tests it was clear the Mustang won, but how would they perform on the track? Well thankfully Motortrend wondered the same and took both cars, and pro driver Randy Pobst, to Willow Springs Raceway to find out. To make a long story short, with Motortrend senior editor Ed Loh behind the wheel the Mustang beat the BMW by .55 seconds. However the BMW slightly edged the Mustang when Pobst was behind the wheel in "less than a blink of an eye" 0.09 seconds. Read the full story here.
