| WD-40 and SEMA Team Up To Build Unique Mustang For Charity |
Update 1/23/2011: The WD40 Sema Cares 2011 Mustang sold at the Barrett Jackson auction in Scottsdale for $100,000.
Each year the auto industry converges on Las Vegas for the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show (SEMA) to get a sneak peek at all the latest goodies that will soon be available to hot rod the vehicle of your choice. This years show will be a little extra special thanks to SEMA's charity organization "SEMA Cares" and WD-40 who are teaming up to build a one off Ford Mustang for charity.
The WD-40 Mustang will start life as a brand new 5.0L 2011 Mustang GT. Then leading aftermarket equipment manufacturers such as Paxton, Street Scene, Stillen, AP Racing, and ForgeLine will pitch in to give the classic pony car a unique interior, custom sound system, big brakes, and 600 supercharged horsepower. Finally the Mustang's custom body kit will be given a unique WD-40 style paint scheme. The GT, dubbed the "WD-40/SEMA Cares Mustang", will then make its grand unveiling at the SEMA Show on November 2nd before being shipped off to Scottsdale to be auctioned off at the Barrett Jackson auction in January. Proceeds of the sale will go to Childhelp and The Victory Junction Gang Camp childrens charities. Although the average Mustang enthusiast will never get a chance to take the WD40 Mustang for a spin they will be able to drive the doors off a virtual version of the car which will make an appearance on the online racing game and social network Nitto 1320 Legends.
"The WD-40/SEMA Cares Mustang pays tribute to the mechanics, aftermarket professionals and auto enthusiasts who have used WD-40 for more than 50 years to get the job done," said Tim Lesmeister, vice president of marketing at WD-40 Company. "This is such a fun and meaningful project for us. We're proud that all proceeds from the sale of the vehicle will continue to support two great charities, but we know it would not be possible without the time, energy, dedication and resources of our build partners."
This isn't the first time SEMA Cares and WD40 have teamed up. Last year they built the WD-40/SEMA Cares 2010 Camaro which was later auctioned at Barrett Jackson for $75,000, all proceeds going to charity.
