| Mustang To Move Up To Nascar Sprint Cup Series In 2013? |
In July 2009 Ford Motor Company revealed its plans to begin a new era in racing competition for the Ford Mustang with the pony car's first entry into Nascar. Although that was huge news for Mustang enthusiasts there were a few problems. First off the Mustang wasn't being placed in the big race as many had hoped. Instead it would run in the Nascar Nationwide Series, leaving the Fusion as Ford's entry in Nascar's lead series, the Sprint Cup Series. Also while the cars wore Ford Mustang badging they looked very little like the car the consumer saw in the dealer lot. Well if a recent report is to be believed, both Nascar and Ford are looking to solve these problems in the coming years.
According to a recently published article by Speedtv.com when the next generation of Nascar Sprint Cup car are rolled out in 2013, not only may some of them be Ford Mustangs, but they may actually look like them too! Ford Motor Company North American Motorsports Director Jamie Allison was quoted as saying that Ford would really like to see the Mustang in the Sprint Cup Series but only on one condition; the cars had to look more like the real thing. "We like to see our iconic brand in all forms of motorsports,” Allison said of the Mustang. “Any further consideration of the Mustang would have to be complemented and linked to more brand identity to the car that’s raced. It can’t just be the current car of tomorrow. It has to be a progression beyond what’s in Nationwide. It’s got to look identifiable and recognizable as a Mustang.”
