|2013 Shelby GT500 Mustang Powered By Twin Turbo 5.0L?
Recently Car and Driver Magazine reported that the 2013 Shelby GT500 would be getting a new 5.8L V8 with a 2.3L Eaton TVS supercharger unit that is said to put out around 620 horsepower. As with any time a manufacturer is developing a new vehicle the rumors tend to change from day to day, sometimes drastically. While C&D stands behind their rumor another site, CarAdvice.com.au, is reporting that their sources are telling a different tale.
According to the report by Car Advice, the 2013 Shelby GT500 won't be powered by the 5.4L V8 currently residing under it's hood. It won't even be powered by a punched out 5.8L version of that engine either. Instead, they are speculating that Ford will be using a twin turbo version of the 5.0L V8 in the current Mustang GT. The rumored output of the new combo is just over 600hp.
Rumour has it the 2013 Shelby GT500 will be fitted a twin-turbo version of Fordís new 5.0-litre twin-cam V8. The engine is thought to be much more fuel-efficient than the larger supercharged V8s, which will be more suitable in this day and age with increasing fuel prices. Definite engine figures are not yet known but we could expect upwards of 450kW, considering the current model has 410kW.
