|Muscle Car Sales Up In January 2012, Camaro Leads Mustang And Challenger
Tomorrow morning the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil, the seer of seers, prognosticator of all prognosticators will arise reluctantly, but alertly, from his burrow and if he fails to see his shadow the Mustang will again rein supreme in the pony car sales war. Until then we'll have to live with the fact that the Camaro is beating the Mustang and Challenger in monthly sales.
In January 2012 General Motors sold exactly 5,709 Camaros, an increase of almost 20 percent over the previous January. While the number of Camaro sales are nearly 2,000 more than the Mustang there is a silver lining in this cloud. You see, in January 2012 Ford sold 3,736 Mustangs, an 18 percent increase over the previous year. So even though the Camaro is still leading, sales are beginning to pick up for all the pony cars. That includes the Challenger which had 2,551 units sell last month, roughly a 1 percent increase.
Last year the Camaro beat the Mustang and Challenger in overall sales. Will the trend continue for the rest of this year as well or will the 2013 models shake things up in the Spring?
