1978 signalled the end of the Mustang II era. The next year would be what many think is the beginning of the return of the original pony car the Mustang started out as. Once again the horsepower was downgraded, but only on one engine this time instead of two. Although the 171cu in motor dropped 13 horses from 103hp to 90hp, the 2.3L retained the same amount of horsepower and the 302 went up to 139hp from 134hp. Why such small changes? Once again, I don't have a clue.
