1980 didn't lead the Mustang much further back into its performance past of the early years. Instead, it actually led the Mustang backwards. Withdrawing from the 140hp 5.0L V-8 that it had since 1975, Ford installed a smaller 4.2L V-8 with only 119hp. With such a drop in horsepower, the non-reliable turbocharged 4 cyl. motor had more horsepower (with 132hp) than the big V-8. Also, prices jumped up a bunch more than usual from 1979.
