Pictures of my saved 1988 coupe

Here are some pictures of my 5.0 I saved from doom out of a field....I plan on restoring it and doing many mods so wanted to share its re-birth.

If anyone has any pointers please feel free to chime in...

Looks like it's in pretty good shape. I like the stripes!

I have put about 1000.00 into it just to get it running and now I would like to start to get the motor built up with bolt on stuff and start to fix the interior some. I replace all the weather stripping around the doors and windows and just put an autometer gauge pod on the dash today. Its suspension is shot and I HAVE to buy a rack & pinion soon, but other than that it seems like a good car for the 1500.00 I paid for it.

If you have any pointers please let me know.

How many miles on the engine? What I am doing is building up my spare 5.0 engine so that I dont have my '88 sitting in a garage with no engine. It can still be moved if there is a fire or something. That way I can drive it now and then one week I'll bring it in and just swap engines instead of pulling the engine now and have it sit there without a spare ready to go in. You should probably build the engine instead of bolt ons if it has some miles on it but I would build it anyway just for future mods.

Other than a rear main kinda going out, the engine was just re-built but the guy didnt have any money and need to sell it before he could finish. I'm not sure what he did but its sound and has no leaks...well except for the rear main...

Looks good. If you paint it, please bring the stripes all the way down the bumpers. It kinda looks unfinished like that. First mod should be exhaust. If that's done, go right to the rear gears.

Yea that is somewhat common. The rear main seal is a little picky so alot of times once somebody messes with the original one it can develop leaks. It's just one of those things that cost almost nothing but are a PITA to replace. I had one on one of my cars leak, and i basically drove it like that for years. Luckily mine wasn't too bad of a leak.

87hybrid...just put 3:73 in the rear end and got a 95 T5 trans also....I am putting the speedo gears in tomorrow to get the speedometer right.....I know I havenít told much about what I've done so far but I guess that is just the way it is....the 95 tranny was a perfect for but the starter was an issue for a little while...but got it to work.

Oh yeah...I put headers on, with an off-road H-pipe followed by Mac cat backs....All are 3.5 inches...I hope this was a good choice...

I plan on shaving the crap off the body and going straight black on black....
Keep the comments coming...thanks guys!
