holotoftrouble mine was doing the same thing, and my problem was the timing was way too advanced,i put it to 14...and now she starts everytime, good luck

Sounds like the timing is a little too far advanced. Or if not that, have you added aftermarket exhaust (espessially longtube headers)? the longtubes typically run closer to the starter than shorties do, so it could be heating up your starter to the point that it causes it to be weak when you activate it with the key.

I also had the same problem and no one could find it. I changed, one at a time, the coil, ignition module, EGR, fuel pump, fuel filter, plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, and such. It would still die when hot (Las Vegas hot) and wouldn't start until a few hours went by. The last time it happened my female neighbor stopped to help and said that she also had that problem with her Jaguar and she suggested something her mechanic did. I had the car towed home that night and the towtruck driver had the exact same suggestion...take out the thermostat!. Huh? Don't ask 'cause I still can't figure it out but my '86 hasn't died once since. Can't say that'll cure yours but it's worth a try for less than an hours time and $00.00 total cost.

quick5pnt0 This probably can be a few different things. If you have a new solenoid and cables, then the only other thing i can think of is that the starter itself is bad. Who put the cables in? Because like rdrnner said sometimes the cables can get corroded, and if the cable to starter/solenoid/battery arent clean this problem will happen.

im having the exact same problem, but after mine does it the car runs poorly for a few minutes, like its running rich. anybody got anything to add?? i was thinking high timeing??

rdrunnr Check your battery cables and make sure they are not all crudded up. Make sure the ground wire is good too.

Sounds like it's the starter or the starter solenoid.

after you drive it for a while and the car get's up to running temperature and you shut it off and let it set for like 2 min's and you try to start it back up it sorta like it can't turn the engine over and then after about 6 sec's of holding the key for it 2 start it start's up then it's fine just until you shut it off when it's hot

quick5pnt0 Does it not actually start? OR Does it not crank?

If it doesnt crank, then there are a number of possibilitys, but more than likely its the starter motor.
If it does crank, but not start then it may be the ignition module.
