Fuel problems with a 1989 5.0

Postby bigley » Sat Oct 31, 2009 9:07 am

I had a fuel pump problem with my 5.0 and dropped the tank and replaced the pump. Car ran fine for about 15 miles then would stall out (almost felt like it was flooding) and then die. Next time out it ran for 8 miles and the same problem. I replaced the fuel filter figuring dirt, etc. but still having the same problem. The car idles fine and will run for 2 miles or so but eventually has the same symptoms. Could this be the fuel injector? When the car is parked I can rev it up to about 1800 for a few seconds but it will eventually start stalling out again. If I just take my foot off the pedal it will start to idle fine.

Are you sure it's a fuel problem? Sounds like it could be a faulty ignition module or distributor pickup.

Is there a check engine light? Does sound electrical though. Maybe the dist., or a TPS sensor getting ready to quit.....
