IAC motor testing

Postby sb3854 » Sun Oct 26, 2008 4:13 pm

Does anyone know how to test the IAC motor? My 5.0 surges at idle. I have looked at the motor and it is clean with no obvious problems.

I've never heard of a way of testing them and a local dealer once told me that they don't test them they just replace them...LOL

The only "test" is to unplug it. If there's no change in the idle performance, then change it. They can be cleaned once or twice, but this is a temporary fix. I would try the battery disconnect/idle re-learn trick first.

My idle is fine most of the time, but sometimes will act up. I have also noticed that when running my A/C it has a consistent 100 rpm surge. What would cause this?

Do you mean that the idle jumps when you turn the AC on? That is normal.

No. the idle will have a constant 100rpm up and down surge with the a/c on. If I turn it off it will sit there and idle steady. At times my rpm's will go crazy jumping up to 2000 or so and hunting. I can usually turn the car off and restart it and it will level back out.
