2011 mustang to get four doors and wagon model

Postby quick5pnt0 » Wed Dec 13, 2006 10:11 pm

Here's something insane. According to Autoweek Ford Motor Company is planning on adding a sedan and wagon version to the Mustang lineup when it's redesigned. The redesign which was expected in 2012 is now said to be in the works for 2011.

I really don't know what they think they're doing. I personally think the entire idea of a wagon or sedan Mustang is stupid. I have a bad feeling about this, like the watering down of the Mustang brand by producing mom and pop versions will eventually lead the Mustang's demise.

Same thing happened with the new "Charger". Nobody thinks of Chargers the same now and Dodge is trying to make people like them by putting bigger engines in them  . They just aren't the same :x . There has never ever been a four door or wagon in the history of Mustangs and I think it should stay that way. Pretty soon we will being going back to the darkest age of Mustang History: Mustang II age  '74-'78 but they will be wagon 4 or 6 cylinders. I think they should keep the '05+ style a little longer and think about how they will be destroying the Mustang's reputation it has earned over the last 4 decades. We are still kind of recovering from the Mustang II and now this????

four door mustang is a rumor!

Postby quick5pnt0 » Mon Dec 18, 2006 3:50 pm

Well it turns out that Autoweek was wrong! Here's a press release from Ford motor company on the subject. I assume Autoweek found out that Ford has plans to unveil a four door rear drive concept car based off the Mustang at the North American International Auto Show and they assumed it was a Mustang sedan.

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 15 – Ford Motor Company today made clear that recent media speculation concerning an expanded Mustang line – including a sedan and wagon model to be sold in global markets – is not true. Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique, two-door, rear-wheel drive, 2+2 performance car.

At the 2007 North American International Auto Show, Ford will unveil a four-door, rear-wheel-drive concept car. The concept, known as “The Interceptor”, is based on the Mustang’s rear-wheel-drive architecture but it is not a Mustang and no production plans have been announced. Additional information on the Ford rear-drive concept will be available December 31, 2006.

mike23386

how do you think we are recovering from the Mustang ii.
Facts ONE:  the '74 mustang was one of the  top ten selling mustangs of all time and even though it had a 4cyl. and it got 30 mpg and that was in the times of a oil crisis with long lines at the gas pump...fact TWO: when the v-8 finally came out in '76 in the USA it was rated at 139hp because of emission crack down by the EPA. The mexican mustang ii ( which was sold in mexico was non emission) came with the 302 v-8 and it was rated at 225hp but your mustang you got pictured is a fox body. Do you know that the first year for your fox body platform was rated at only 139hp too :o ..See ur fox body lasted from '79 to '93 thats 14 years, the mustang ii only lasted 4 yrs and yes even your fox body came with a v-6 and a 4cyl. and it was optional all throughout the 80's........HAHAHAHA... EAT THEM FACTS !!!!!
Here some production numbers for you ..

1974 : 385,993 .... 1979 : 369,936
1975 : 188,575 .... 1980 : 271,332
1976 : 187,567 .... 1981 : 182,552
1977 : 153,173 .... 1982 : 130,418
1978 : 192,410 .... 1983 : 120,873

total : 1,107,718 .... total : 1,075,101

Not one '79-'93 mustang outsold the 1974 mustang iin  . History figures kinda prove u wrong there.
So u say ford's dark ages was in the mid '70's. I think the dark age probably was the 80's WHEN ford thought bout turning the mustang into a front wheel drive vehicle. But they didnt and so now you have the Ford probe. :o So many people wrote to Ford and said if they are gonna make the Mustang a front wheel drive you might as well kill the Mustang all together. Now I think that would have been the darkest age of the mustang legacy. Just might as well kill it all together for that matter. Then you talk bout the wagon well i agree wth you there but did YOU know that ford had thought bout that back when they were designing the first generation... HMMM makes me wonder how much knowledge you have of the mustang history.
fact THREE: What is the most popular front suspension to be used under any model of car/truck" ? ..People used to cut them out of the car to be used on their project car. ANSWER :....................THE MUSTANG II

MY POINT IS BEFORE YOU START PINPOINTING THE DARK AGES OF THE MUSTANG LEGACY YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING BOUT AND KNOW ALL THE FACTS..EACH GENERATION HAS HAD ITS DOWNFALLS.

I think that if ford really wanted to be a competitor in the four door suped up sedan market, they should have never kicked the Interceptor. Of some of the ideas I've seen, I think that was actually a good one. Ford spends so much time building concept cars that they never use... they need to just start putting some of those out there. I sell cars for a living and you'd be surprised how many people are actually interested in a four door mustang.
