These pictures below are the same ones in the article above, but I figured I'd post them here too for those who don't want to read.

 I'm just wondering how the ride will still be after riding in a couple hardtop convertibles.

Well Ford has thrown a wrench into things. Autoblog has contacted Ford Motor Company about this and according to Ford they aren't involved with this project. "The automaker added that it's always investigating new features and special editions to help feed the Mustang enthusiast desire for more and to maintain its pony car segment leadership" I guess only time will tell whether there will ever be a retractable top Mustang, and whether this car is the prototype for it.

I just wanted to say that we didn't mean to lead anyone on when we posted this article. When we heard about this project we just put two and two together and figured it was definitely being built for the rumored hardtop Mustang. That's not to say that this may not still be true, because I really wouldn't expect Ford to come out and say "yes that's the prototype for a new car we have yet to unveil, thanks for spoiling it" Of course it's also possible that Muscat is building this entire system as an aftermarket upgrade. We shall see...

Either way I think the convertible hardtop looks great. It keeps most of the sleek looks of a hardtop, while still allowing you to drop the top on the way to the beach. :D I'll take two.

lol yes I agree I love the hardtop with the convertible capabilities but I have ridden in a few hardtop convertibles before and its definitely not as good of a ride as a regular hardtop.

Retractable Hardtop Mustang GT Pictures and Video

Postby quick5pnt0 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 10:43 pm

Well I still have yet to confirm whether this is an aftermarket modification or what's to be expected from Ford in '09, but I did get an email from Muscat Technologies with more pictures and even a video of the retractable hardtop in action!

BTW We have emailed them back to get more information on this product, and as we get that we'll post it here.

Mustang retractable hardtop information

Postby quick5pnt0 » Fri Mar 23, 2007 9:40 am

OK, Muscat Technology got back to me. Although I specifically asked if this car had anything to do with the '09 Mustang, they didn't make any remarks about that. Anyway, here's what they had to say:

We have been working on this car for quite some time. Now the first prototype is ready and being shipped over to the US so people can view the car and make orders.

As you can see from both the image and the video. A lot of study and design had been done so that the car keeps it’s original shape as possible. Leaving the trunk with a lot of free space.

In a months time we will be producing another 5 updated prototypes and after that we will begin with a limited production. Aiming to produce two cars a day by the end of this year.

Peter Muscat the designer of this Hardtop conversion has also worked on the conversion of the Ford Mustang between 1984 – 1990 in collaboration with McLaren.
