We had the pleasure of attending the Saleen Club of America's 2010 Nationals car show yesterday morning which was held at Orange County Choppers in Newburgh, NY. The show had a huge turnout of Saleen Mustangs from all over the country including over a dozen Fox Body Saleens, a Saleen Extreme with Rainbow paint, and even a rare Saleen Explorer XP8. We want to give a huge congratulations to Ford Motor Company. Today the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 reached its goal of going over 1000 laps around Bristol Motor Speedway on just one tank of fuel. Afterwards the Mustang still had a 1/4 tank of fuel left so it kept circling the track until finally running out of fuel at 12:41am, over 17 hours since the start of the event. The total lap count was an amazing 1457 with an average fuel mileage of 48mpg! During the Carlisle Ford Nationals last weekend Saleen debuted the 2011 Saleen S302 Mustang. The 2011 Saleen S302 is based on the 2011 Mustang GT and features its 5.0L V8 producing 425 horsepower and 395 lb/ft of torque. Less than two weeks after reporting of a 2011 Mustang GT running an 11 second quarter mile time, we've got two more accounts (and videos) of the new 5.0L blasting down the drag strip, this time in the 10s! Available in two versions, the naturally aspirated SMS 302 produces 440 horsepower from its 5.0L powerplant, while the 302SC creates 535 ground pounding ponies thanks SMS's 296 supercharger system. Last night during a party at Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory, Vaughn Gittin Jr unveiled his new Monster Energy and Falken Tire sponsored 2011 Mustang GT drift car. The awesome new ride features an all carbon fiber body shell that accounts for the vehicles ultra light 2,600lb curb weight. Is Ford being really conservative when it claims the 2011 Mustang GT makes 412 horsepower? If a recent report by Edmunds is to be believed then we'd say so, and by a long shot. Edmunds was able to get a pre-production 2011 Mustang GT on the dyno and found it made 395hp at the rear wheels, roughly 450 at the flywheel!
Update 3/26/2010 - Motor Trend Magazine just published the results of their own dyno test of the 2011 Mustang GT (and V6). Though the GT they tested was down about 17 horsepower compared to what Edmunds reported it still puts the 2011 Mustang GT's peak horsepower in the 420-440 hp range!
