When the 2010 Mustang was unveiled earlier this year it was a bit of a letdown to find that the base model was just getting a carry over V6 from the previous model, but according to a recent report by Autoblog Ford Motor Company may soon be replacing that old mill with a 3.7 liter DOHC. Although no specs are yet available the same basic engine configuration in the Lincoln MKS puts out 273hp which would mean that a 300 horsepower V6, to compete with the current Camaro, wouldn't be out of the question.

Autoblog was on hand at the 3rd Annual Ford Racing Invitational at Milan Dragway where Ford Racing announced its plans to make a "body in white" program available for the 2010 Mustang. For the uninitiated this program is where Ford makes the bare Mustang shell available to racers for the purpose of building race cars. Usually they're only available in a plain white paint job, hence the name "body in white". Orders for the 2010 Mustang body in white program will begin being taken in July with the shells delivered to racers by the end of the year. Ford is planning to offer these annually for at least the next few years.

We don't know how we missed this news, but early last month Saleen Inc was sold! As we reported to you last November after founder Steve Saleen left the company to start a new brand Saleen Inc decided to expore the sale of it's operations. The majority of the company's assests were sold to MJ Acquisitions including the production car and aftermarket divisions. The good news is that MJ has plans to produce another Saleen Mustang under the Racecraft brand in 2010. The bad news is that the purchase didn't include the S7 or S5 Raptor supercars which could very well spell the ulimate demise for both vehicles.
Update: We just found out that the new owners will no longer honor warranties for all previous Saleen vehicles. Even unsold models still on the dealer lots will have to be sold without warranty. This basically leaves all of the loyal Saleen owners out in the cold. Word is that the only warranties MJ Aquisitions will honor are those from parts sold after February 2nd.

I'm sure you realize how much we hate spreading rumors (yea right) but this one just had to let out of the bag. We're not sure where it originated but a number of auto related blogs today are reporting that the 2011 Ford Mustang will not only feature the turbocharged Ecoboost V6 we spoke of last year but also a new DOHC 5.0L V8 code named "Coyote". Word is that both engines will have around 400hp and 400 ft/lbs of torque. Along with the 4.6L currently residing the Mustang GT, the 5.4L in the GT500 will be killed off leaving room for a larger engine to take its place. Rumor has it that the GT500 will be getting a 6.2L with big horsepower and massive torque. We'll keep you posted!
