Doug Mangrum's new ride

If you haven't been watching the Pro 5.0 class lately then you've been missing some really fast racing.  Those stangs are going faster and faster, but when does it all stop?  Lately many Super Stallion racers have been going pretty deep into the seven second zone.  Some racers have gotten very close the 7.50 mark, which is the end of the road for many Pro 5.0 cars. Why?  Most Pro 5.0 cars don't have a chassis that meets NHRA standards for a car running 7.50 or better. That's where some of the new Pro 5.0 cars come into play.

Many Pro 5.0 racers (ever hear of Les Baer?) have been building all out race cars that do comply with the NHRA standard for 7.50 and quicker cars, which is known as the 25.1c regulation. Including Doug Mangrum's new ride.  Doug didn't start with an actual Mustang, his stang started life from scratch..  Doug's new racer actually started out in Mike Duffy Race Cars, on a frame welding jig. Doug had Mike D. build him a chrome-moly double tube frame chassis which is alot more stiff than any fox body mustang can be.
Doug's new ride is stuffed with a 385 cubic inch Windsor motor and is backed by a Liberty 5 speed, which was proven to be a good combination is his last car.  The Windsor is pushed even more with a healthy dose of Nitrous, which should speed Doug into the mid sevens.

So what is Doug's goal?  After a few shake down runs Doug ran a 7.85 at over 170mph.  More than fast enough for some people, but not for Doug.  He wants to run quicker than 7.50 at over 190mph with his new ride.
So that brings us to an important question.  When is it fast enough?  Should Pro 5.0 cars be allowed to keep getting more "race car" like and less street car like? When does this madness stop....when these cars are running 6's with full pro stock like chassis?  Should there be standards that prohibit this type of chassis in Pro 5.0 racing?  What do you think?
