Frequently Asked Questions
-Power adders-
Q. Turbo? Supercharger? Which one is better?
| A. When it
comes down to which one is better there is no right or wrong answer. Both have their
pros and cons, and it's more of how much money you have to spend and your preferences that
will decide what you will get. In most cases it seems that a big turbo, or a twin turbo kit will make more power than a supercharger. Although that's not always the case. The thing that keeps many people from getting a turbo, or twin turbo kit is the price. A supercharger kit is in most cases easier to install and is cheaper. Many of the top Pro 5.0 racers are now switching over to the single turbo setup because of the amount of power they produce. Another thing that makes many racers think twice before getting a turbo kit is the fact that they are harder to stage and launch consistently on the drag strip. |
Q. What's the biggest nitrous kit I can install in my stang?
A. Although there have been stories of "the guy" who put a 300hp nitrous kit on his stang and went 100,000 miles, it usually doesn't work that way. Unless you have an engine that is built for Nitrous you usually don't want to go much further than using a 100hp shot of nitrous. (unless you want to buy a new motor in the near future..LOL)
Q. Is an intercooler worth the extra money on my supercharged Mustang?
A. Yes a supercharger kit with an intercooler will (or should) make more power than a kit without an intercooler. Adding an intercooler to a supercharger kit lets you run the setup more wildly (more psi !!!) because the intake air is alot cooler than if you didn't have an intercooler. It also lets you run a higher psi and more ignition timing because of the cooler air charge.
Q. What does wet and dry mean when dealing with nitrous setups?
A. Basically put a dry nitrous kit doesn't need another fuel pump to work. These kits usually aren't very big. (usually not over 125hp)
Q. I've heard that I need to lower my timing when using a power adder, is that true?
A. Yes, in many cases you have to go back to the stock setting of 10 degrees, but it all depends on the combination.
