World Ford Challenge 01

This is the biggest ford event that there has been. It only comes once a year. What a weekend it has been with the World Ford Challenge happening.

The week started off on Thursday with qualifying. Qualifying went through to Saturday. John Gullett and a few other drivers ran very quick times like 7.4, 7.3, 7.2, 7.1, 7.0. On Sunday there were eliminations.
In the first round John Gullett had a Bye. Some unknown guys were there, but all of the unknown guys were out in the first round. Steve Grebeck had a new car that won in the first round. Derrick Smith also had a Bye.
In the second round, as usual more people were eliminated. John Gullett won against Derrick Smith. Chuck Samuel beat Bill Rimmer Jr. Billy Glidden beat Doug Mangrum, and finally Don Walsh Jr. beat Steve Grebeck. Don didn't win by that much.
In the third round the races heated up even more. Billy Glidden beat Don Walsh Jr.. Don broke in that round so we don't know what really could have happened. Chuck Samuel also won against John Gullett.

In the Final Round, it was Billy Glidden and Chuck Samuel went head to head. Billy Glidden had the advantage from winning last year. Off the line both men were nervious. Billy had the better reaction time. Chuck had to catch back up. At the end of the race Billy Glidden won again. He had the slower time, but the better reaction time.
Here are the times/MPH.

Billy Glidden                7.234/191.67    win
      v.s
Chuck Samuel           7.044/206.32     lose

I just wonder if Chuck Samuel had a better reaction time, could he have had a 6 second run?

Updated Friday. May 25, 2001.

Chuck Samuel had great speeds last weekend at the WFC event. Chuck had four 200 MPH speeds last weekend.
