|No Four Door Mustang
Below is what we reported on 12/13/2006 on our 2009 Ford Mustang Rumors page. Thankfully Ford Motor Company today has released a statement saying they have no plans to produce a four door Mustang. Autoweek wasn't completely wrong though. As you can see in the statement below Ford did reveal it's plans to unveil a four door rear wheel drive concept car known as the "Interceptor" at the 2007 North American International Auto Show. It sounds as though Autoweek got word of this car and assumed it was a sedan version of the Mustang. Thankfully they were wrong as we would like to see the Mustang stay as pure as it's roots; a two door, rear drive, V8 powered pony car!
12/13/06 - Autoweek today unveiled a huge shocker to the Mustang world when they announced the supposed plans by Ford Motor Company to add wagon and sedan versions to the Mustang lineup when it's redesigned. Not only that but they claim the redesign is coming a year sooner than expected in 2011.
Below you can read the statement from Ford Motor Company in it's entirety.
DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 15 - Ford Motor Company today made clear that recent media speculation concerning an expanded Mustang line - including a sedan and wagon model to be sold in global markets - is not true. Mustang is an icon and will continue in its current form: a unique, two-door, rear-wheel drive, 2+2 performance car.
At the 2007 North American International Auto Show, Ford will unveil a four-door, rear-wheel-drive concept car. The concept, known as "The Interceptor", is based on the Mustang's rear-wheel-drive architecture but it is not a Mustang and no production plans have been announced. Additional information on the Ford rear-drive concept will be available December 31, 2006.
