|Consumer Reports Picks Mustang Over Camaro In V6 Pony Car War
Last year Consumer Reports Magazine (CR) pitted the V8 versions of the Mustang and Camaro against each other to see which was the dominant force in the current pony car wars. Even though the Mustang was of an older design it still outperformed the Chevy. Yet again we're seeing more evidence that the Ford still reigns supreme as Consumer Reports picked the the Mustang over the Camaro in their V6 Face-Off.
In their October issue, Consumer Reports tests both the 2011 Mustang V6 and the 2011 Camaro V6. The Mustang earned a Very Good road test rating outscoring the Camaro which earned a Good rating. According to CR "The Mustang is the more agile and enjoyable car to drive of the two. Opting for a V6 engine did not overly dilute the fun factor in driving the Mustang, but it did for the Camaro. The Ford's new V6 engine is not only more refined than the Camaro's, it delivered stronger acceleration and better fuel economy. The Camaro provides decent acceleration, but it's not as readily available. The car rides well enough but it's almost 300 pounds heavier than the Mustang."
Consumer reports went on to say that the "Mustang corners well, with good steering and little body lean" and that its "six-speed manual transmission shifts crisply" while the Camaro "feels relatively ungainly, with slower steering response" and its "six-speed manual transmission is rather stiff and imprecise". CR also did its own fuel mileage tests where it found that the Mustang achieved an average 24mpg compared to the Camaro's 21mpg. What can we say, the Mustang wins again!
