|Camaro To Outsell Mustang For First Time Since 1985
Update 1/5/2011: Its official, the Chevy Camaro has outsold the Ford Mustang for the 2010 model year. GM sold exactly 81,371 Camaros, while Ford only sold 73,716 Mustangs.
For the first time since 1985 the Chevy Camaro is set to outsell the Ford Mustang and it doesn't seem to be bothering Ford one bit. According to Automotive News when Ford sales analyst, George Pipas, was asked about the Camaro's new milestone he remarked "If that was important, we wouldn't have taken a shift off at Flat Rock." That means that Ford isn't willing to play any games with production to outsell the Camaro. Instead it is going to keep doing what it has been and only produce enough Mustangs that it thinks it can sell at a profit.
Through November Ford has sold 68,264 Mustangs while Chevy sold 75,685 Camaros. It isn't all bad news though as The New York Times is reporting that the Mustang is still winning the pony car sales war in Canada by about a thousand units, 4,935 Mustang sales to 3,974 for the Camaro.
