94 mustang gt idle

my car when in park (its an automatic 4 spd) jumps to about 2000 rpm when i turn the car on, then when i shift into drive or reverse it falls to about 1500 then drops quickly to around 1000 what is wrong with my car? i was told it was a pcv valve but i replaced it and well nothing happened all that spectacular...

A lot of cars do that, my brother's '07 Jetta 2.5 does it as well. (5 spd manual)

You can try reading through these articles which show you have to fix basic idle problems. I'm not sure by how much, but it is normal for your idle to fluctuate a little when putting it into gear.

Yeah, 2k seems kinda high....I'm thinking maybe 1100rpms on start up, down to 7 or 800 in gear.
