Mustang Automatics

I have an 88 LX with a 347 and a C6 that I bought to be used as a donor car to build a Factory Five Cobra later this year. There seems to be a question if the C6 will fit in the Cobra transmission tunnel. No one seems to have built a Factory Five Cobra with an automatic. My question to this group is with their experiences with Ford automatics and your thoughts on switching to a smaller Ford transmission case (if there is one). Any comments would be appreciated. Jim

Can you tell if this is a Factory Five car? Because it supposedly has a C6. I'm assuming it's not but I figured maybe you could tell for sure.

Sorry but I don't know enough about Ford automatic transmissions to be able to recommend a smaller one. I'm pretty certain I've seen AOD Factory Five Cobras but the AOD will need a good bit of work to put with any real horsepower.

EDIT: Check out these pictures. The C6 doesn't look much bigger than the AOD which after doing some searching I've found that there have been at least a few AOD Cobras built. It does look a bit wider toward the front so it's hard to say if it'll fit. I guess the only way to know for sure is to throw it up in there and see if it hits anything.

quick5pnt0 - Thanks for the photos of the transmissions. This gives me some encouragement that I won't have to spend the bucks to do the 5 speed conversion. The Cobra you provided the link to is very nice. My only problem with it is the $45,000 price tag.
