Well its been nearly a year & I have'nt seen one stock GT500 hit 11's!Where's the "I told you so now?"LOL!No seriously though,the car has potential but it will never compete in the super car class that the vette is in.The Pony car class is a different playing field which it "can" dominate. Quote:

Of course i know that some magazines will get the shelby in the 12s but i can promise you there will be some magazines that will get it in the high 11s without adding anything to it. Also i heard from other forums you wont be able to sup it much because of the way the engine is but i dont believe that and when a magazine does get it in the 11s i will be on here saying i told you so but its all in fun.

I understand what you're saying about some magazines getting the car into the 11's but the same can be said about the Z06. For example, for the most part fox body mustangs were mid to low 14 second cars (assuming a decent driver, and a 5 speed). Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine on the other hand got a bone stock fox body into the 13's. It has to do with them making many many runs, trying different things (icing the intake, removing the sway bar, short belts, tire pressures, removing seats, power shifting, etc) The same can be said about the Z06. Sure some of the main stream magazines will get it into the mid to high 11's, but if you put that car in the hands of a Vette magazine with some good drivers and alot of time you'll see much lower times. Again the same can be said for the '03 Cobra. Sure MM&FF might be able to get a mid 12 out of it, but for the average driver who isnt going to beat the car to death trying to get that next tenth it isnt going to be that quick. Believe it or not i've seen guys run 14's in '03 cobra's while others like you said will spend the time testing and tuning to get it in the 12's. |

| iceman241 | And also i wanted to point out that when they thought the shelby was going to have 475hp they said it would do 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and now that it has 500hp and we all know that horsepower might be underated like the 03 and 04 cobra i am guessing it will do under 4 seconds. And also carrol shelby has already said in an interview that he beat the corvettes in the 60s and he will do it again just think about it why would they go from 450hp then say it has 475hp then to 500hp you know why to make it compete with the Z06 thats why and plus have the first car that has 500hp for 40grand or less for msrp but we all know that it will be higher try in the 50 to 60 range but i am betting anything that it will drop within a year cause they said if the demand is high enough they will make 10,000 a year and that will make the price go down. |

Well first off there's a big difference in price between the Z06, GT500, and Mustang GT. The Mustang GT is roughly $25K, the GT500 will likely be $40K, and the Z06 is $65K. With that said, i'm sure you could pump up the horsepower even more in the GT500, and make it handle a ton better with the extra $25K you'd have if you bought it over the Z06. Of course you'd still have a car that is roughly 800lbs more.  Car and driver said the Z06 was 3100lbs, and Ford stated the GT500 will be 3900lbs, thats a big difference in weight which should effect quarter mile times a good bit. The old saying is that 100lbs is worth a tenth in the quarter mile. That would make the GT500 .8 slower than the vette which puts it square into the mid 12's right where i'd say it will be with a good driver. BTW R&T magazine said the claimed 1/4 mile time was 12.9 for the GT500 |

06 Z06 or the 07 Shelby GT500 both 500hp cars!!! Ok we all know the Z06 is going to be faster since it wieghs less but my question is by how much here is what i am guessing we know the 03&04 cobras with a good driver ran a quarter mile stock about a 12.5 right and have 390hp and the people who built the shelby said that it will out perform it but by how much. I also read in a article where they took the new mustang gt and just added a supercharger on it and that gave it around 400hp and it ran a 12.5 and i dont think the gts are that much less then the shelby so i am guessing the shelby will run the qurster mile in a 11.8 or a 11.9 with a good driver i mean just do the math they said the shelby would do 0-60 in 4 flat when they said it was rated at 475hp so now i am almost positive it will get under the 4 second range to 0-60. But anyways if anyone would like to comment please do. |
